Newly Risen How Brightly You Shine The window overlooking the park where The Ibises range Warrung morning in the middle of the year, got the heater on Aluminium window frame doesn't fit all the way down There is a gap which lets some of the cold air inside The bottom corner darkened with flecks of black mould And of course the window is smudged with dirt I've neglected It all seems like so much effort now I know we're leaving It was once very important for me to attend to every surface Still neat though, I must have everything in perfect order There was a time when the mould caused me much anxiety I paid a lot to have a bathroom fan installed - that helped Housing said they won't compensate me for that cost though Now we just wait until the relocation officers arrive here Walking to the shops feeling like you don't belong any more I suppose no one would really care because we're 'freeloaders' You don't ask for the life you're born into, you just endure it The annoying thing is I've only just fixed this mouldy window I was quite proud of myself finding the right drill bit and screw Oh and look at that there's mould on that screw. Didn't take long I wonder where that screw will be in ten years time, buried? Or do the demolition crew just recycle everything for scrap? Might be a nice little earner for them - I'm glad to have helped The Ibises graze on contentedly, one of them walking fast Must have spotted a bit of food to compete over, they're funny Life'll go on - it's just the uncertainty that makes life hell I still don't see how any of this resembles the old South Wales
